Slime making party

What it is

The party is a giant slime-making session. Children make a base slime, then customise it with glitter, foam beads, shaving foam or glow powder. It is messy but controlled, and the slime is the party bag.

Plan ahead

• One week before: buy PVA glue (about 120ml per slime), activator (contact lens solution and baking soda), colours, glitter, foam beads and pots.
• The day before: test the recipe so you know exactly how much activator to use. Set up stations with a tray, bowl, spoon and wet wipes.

Basic slime recipe (per child)

1. Pour 120ml PVA glue into a bowl.
2. Add half a teaspoon of baking soda and a few drops of colour; stir.
3. Add contact lens solution (one that lists boric acid) a teaspoon at a time.
4. Stir until it pulls away from the bowl, then knead with your hands.

Slime styles

• Fluffy: add a big handful of shaving foam before the activator.
• Glitter: use clear glue and lots of glitter.
• Crunchy: knead in foam beads.
• Glow: add glow-in-the-dark powder and test in a dark cupboard.

Food and drink

• “Slime” lime jelly cups
• Pizza or sandwiches
• Green and purple fizzy drinks

Tips

• Keep slime off carpets and soft furnishings; vinegar helps remove it.
• Ask parents about skin sensitivities and supply gloves if needed.
