What it is

A watch party for a Formula 1 or other motor race. Guests draw drivers in a sweepstake, eat from a pit-stop food table, and take turns on a racing game with a steering wheel for the fastest lap.

Plan ahead

  • One week before: check the race time and streaming. Borrow or hire a racing wheel and game.
  • The day before: print the sweepstake with every driver and prepare food.

Set the scene

Chequered flags, a podium (three boxes), tyre-stack decorations, team colours and a “Pit Lane” food table.

Activities

  • Driver sweepstake: draw names; prizes for the winner and for the driver who finishes last.
  • Sim racing: fastest lap leaderboard on a racing game.
  • Podium celebration: the sweepstake winner gets the “champagne” spray (sparkling juice outside!).

Food and drink

  • Easy finger food from the country of the Grand Prix
  • Sliders and fries
  • Beer, soft drinks and a bottle of fizz for the podium

Tips

  • Race start times vary - plan food around the start.

On the day

  1. Pre-race (40 min): sweepstake draw for drivers and the sim racing time trial.
  2. Race (around 90 min): food at the 'pit stop' table.
  3. Podium (10 min): sweepstake winner sprays sparkling juice or fizz.
  4. Sim racing final (30 min).
