What it is
A tasting of four gins with different botanicals - classic juniper, citrus, floral and spiced - each paired with the right tonic and garnish. Ends with guests creating their own G&T. Good for birthdays and hen parties.
Plan ahead
- Two weeks before: buy a gin tasting set or four bottles, plus a selection of tonics (Indian, light, elderflower, Mediterranean).
- The day before: prepare garnishes: lime, grapefruit, cucumber, rosemary, pink peppercorns, orange peel, berries, juniper.
The four gins
- London dry (juniper-forward): Indian tonic and lime.
- Citrus gin: light tonic and grapefruit.
- Floral gin: elderflower tonic and cucumber.
- Spiced or navy-strength gin: Mediterranean tonic and orange peel with a cinnamon stick.
Perfect serve
A balloon glass full of ice, 25-50ml gin, top with 150ml chilled tonic poured down a spoon, then add the garnish.
Food and drink
- Canapés: blinis, olives, crisps, cucumber and salmon bites
- A cheese board
- Alcohol-free gin alternatives
Tips
- Fresh ice and cold tonic make the biggest difference.
- Keep pours small for tasting.
