What it could look like

What it is

A team battle game using foam dart blasters. Barricades turn a garden or a big room into an arena, and short rounds with different missions keep it exciting. Several companies hire out full kits with blasters and inflatable barricades.

Plan ahead

  • Two weeks before: ask guests to bring their own blasters (labelled) or hire a kit. Buy extra darts - you’ll lose lots.
  • The day before: build barricades from boxes, upturned tables, garden furniture or inflatable bunkers. Mark the safe zone.

Rules

  • Safety glasses on at all times in the arena.
  • No shooting at heads or at close range (less than 2 metres).
  • Freeze when the whistle blows.
  • The safe zone (food area) is a no-fire zone.

Battles

  • Elimination: three hits and you’re out. Last team standing wins.
  • Capture the flag: each team guards a flag at their end and tries to grab the other team’s.
  • Protect the VIP: one team protects the birthday child as they walk from one end to the other.

Food and drink

  • Pizza or hot dogs
  • “Ammo” (popcorn and tube sweets)
  • Sports drinks and water

Tips

  • Collect darts between rounds; give a prize to whoever collects the most.
  • Keep battles short (5-7 minutes) so everyone stays involved.

On the day

  1. Briefing (10 min): safety rules, glasses on, teams and colour armbands.
  2. Target practice (15 min): knock down cans and cups for points.
  3. Battle 1 - Elimination (20 min): hit three times and you're out.
  4. Refuel (20 min): food and drink while darts are collected.
  5. Battle 2 - Capture the flag (25 min).
  6. Battle 3 - Protect the VIP (15 min): the birthday child is the VIP.
  7. Awards (10 min) and cake.
