What it is
A bead bar party where guests make bracelets and necklaces. It’s calm, creative and cheap, and everyone leaves with jewellery for themselves and a friend.
Plan ahead
- One week before: buy a big bead kit, letter beads, elastic cord, chains, charms, jump rings and small gift boxes.
- The day before: sort beads into muffin tins or ice cube trays. Pre-cut cord into 25cm lengths.
Set the scene
A long table with bead trays, a mirror, fairy lights and a “Bead Bar” sign. Put a towel or tray under each seat - beads roll!
Activities
Stretch bracelets
Tape one end of the cord to the table. Thread beads, then tie a surgeon’s knot (two loops through) and add a dot of clear nail varnish to secure.
Charm necklaces
Use flat-nose pliers to open jump rings sideways, add a charm and close it on the chain.
Friendship bracelets
Teach a simple twisted or braided bracelet with three colours of embroidery thread.
Food and drink
- Sweet and savoury snacks in “jewel” cups
- Pink lemonade
- A cake with a “jewellery box” design
Tips
- Avoid tiny beads for under-6s.
- Give every guest a box with their name on it.
