What it is
A Halloween film marathon with the lights down and a big snack table. Start with something fun and work up to properly scary. Bingo cards keep everyone engaged - and give the scaredy-cats something to do.
Plan ahead
- One week before: pick 2-3 films suitable for the youngest guestâs age rating. Check with parents for teens.
- The day before: make the bingo cards and set up the den: mattresses, duvets and cushions.
Jump-scare bingo
Cards with squares like: âsomeone says âhello?ââ, âthe phone has no signalâ, âa cat jumps outâ, âcar wonât startâ, âsomeone goes into the basementâ, âlights flickerâ. First to a full line shouts âBOO!â.
Food and drink
- Pizza
- Popcorn bar with âbloodyâ red-coloured candy melts
- Eyeball cake pops and gummy worms in chocolate âdirtâ
- Red fizzy âpotionâ drinks
Tips
- Always have one lamp on low - nobody wants to trip in the dark.
- Have a lighter film ready if anyone gets too scared.
On the day
- Arrival (20 min): costumes on and choose a spot in the den.
- Film 1 (90 min): a lighter, funny-scary film.
- Pizza break (30 min).
- Film 2 (100 min): the main scary film with jump-scare bingo.
- Midnight snacks (20 min).
- Film 3 for the brave, or a ghost story circle.
