What it could look like
What it is
A crafty Easter party where every child makes a bonnet and shows it off in a parade. It’s a school tradition many children love, and simple to run at home or in a hall.
Plan ahead
- One week before: buy plain hats (straw or card) or use paper plates. Collect decorations: fake flowers, pom-pom chicks, mini eggs, ribbon, tissue paper, feathers.
- The day before: set up craft tables with glue, tape and scissors.
How to make a paper plate bonnet
Cut the centre out of a paper plate, leaving a ring. Glue the centre back on top, raised, to make a crown. Punch two holes at the sides for ribbon ties. Decorate.
Parade
Clear a runway, play music, and have each child walk and do a twirl.
Awards
“Most colourful”, “Most chicks”, “Tallest bonnet”, “Most springy”, “Best ribbon” - one for everyone.
Food and drink
- Egg sandwiches and nest cakes (chocolate cornflakes with mini eggs)
- Fruit and carrot sticks
- Juice
Tips
- Use glue dots and tape for younger kids - quicker than wet glue.
On the day
- Arrival (10 min): each child picks a plain hat or a paper plate bonnet base.
- Bonnet making (35 min): add flowers, chicks, eggs, ribbon and feathers.
- Snack break (20 min).
- Bonnet parade (20 min): walk the runway to music.
- Awards and egg treats (15 min).
