What it is

A baby shower for everyone - both parents, their friends and family. A barbecue and some playful, light-hearted games make it feel like a garden party with a reason.

Plan ahead

  • Three weeks before: send invitations with any registry details.
  • One week before: buy games supplies: baby bottles, cups, baby food jars, a doll and nappies.
  • The day before: marinate meat and make salads.

Games

  • Nappy pong: like cup pong but with clean nappies as targets and ping pong balls.
  • Baby food taste test: guess the flavour of five jars with the labels removed.
  • Nappy changing race: dad-to-be versus friends, blindfolded, on a doll.
  • Baby betting board: guests guess the birth date, weight, time and hair colour.

Food and drink

  • Burgers, sausages, chicken and halloumi skewers
  • Salads, corn on the cob, coleslaw
  • Beer and lemonade, plus an alcohol-free bar
  • A cake in the nursery colours

Tips

  • Seat the mum-to-be in the shade with a comfy chair.
  • Pregnancy-safe food: cook meat thoroughly.

On the day

  1. Arrival (30 min): drinks and the baby betting board.
  2. BBQ (60 min).
  3. Games (45 min): nappy pong, baby food taste test and a dad-to-be nappy changing race.
  4. Cake and toast to the parents-to-be (20 min).
  5. Lawn games and chat.
