What it could look like
What it is
A watch party for a big sporting final - American football’s championship game, a rugby final or a cup final. A big screen, team colours, lots of food and a few friendly side games.
Plan ahead
- One week before: check the TV or projector setup and streaming. Plan food that can be eaten while watching.
- The day before: make chilli and dips; marinate wings.
Set the scene
Team colours, a field-style tablecloth, foam fingers and a scoreboard. Seats facing the screen with snack tables within reach.
Side games
- Squares: a 10x10 grid where guests write names; numbers are drawn for each team, and the last digit of the score at each quarter wins.
- Prediction cards: first score, final score, MVP.
- Halftime throw: throw a football through a hoop or tyre.
Food and drink
- Buffalo wings, ranch and celery
- Loaded nachos and seven-layer dip
- A chilli bar with toppings
- Sliders or hot dogs
- Beer, soft drinks and a big bowl of ice
Tips
- Keep food out on the counter so nobody misses a play.
- Have a spare remote and a backup stream.
On the day
- Pre-game (45 min): food out, team colours on, squares game filled in.
- First half: wings, nachos and dips.
- Halftime (20 min): halftime show, a mini football throwing contest outside.
- Second half: chilli bar and dessert.
- Final whistle: squares winners and the MVP vote.
