What it is
A retro roller disco at a rink, a sports hall or a community centre that allows skates. Music, disco lights and simple skate games. Many rinks offer party packages with skate hire and food.
Plan ahead
- Four weeks before: book a rink party package, or a hall with a smooth floor and a mobile roller disco company.
- Two weeks before: ask guests their shoe sizes if hiring skates; tell them to bring pads if they have them.
- The day before: make an 80s and 90s playlist, plus current hits.
Set the scene
Neon, glitter and leg warmers. Disco ball, glow sticks and a photo wall.
Activities
- Skate limbo: under a pool noodle held by two adults.
- Musical statues: stop when the music stops (carefully!).
- Races: short straight races, beginners first.
- Conga line: hold hips and skate in a long line.
Food and drink
- Rink party food or pizza
- Slushies and fizzy drinks
- A roller skate cake
Tips
- Helmets for beginners, and a wall-hugging lane for new skaters.
- Have a few adults on skates to help.

- Skate games (25 min): skate limbo, musical statues on wheels and a conga line.
