Fashion show party

What it is

A dress-up and catwalk party. Guests style outfits from a big box of clothes and accessories, get their hair and nails done, then strut down a red runway while friends photograph them.

Plan ahead

• Two weeks before: gather a dress-up box: scarves, hats, sunglasses, jackets, bags, belts, costume jewellery. Charity shops are great.
• One week before: buy a runway carpet (or use a red table runner), a ring light and an instant camera.
• The day before: set up the runway and a styling area with a mirror.

Set the scene

A red or white runway lined with fairy lights, a “Fashion Week” backdrop, chairs in a “front row” and a pumping playlist.

Activities

Design studio

Each guest builds an outfit and names their “collection”. Older guests can sketch a design first.

Runway show

One at a time, introduce each designer and play their chosen song. Guests walk, pose at the end and turn.

Photo shoot

Take instant photos in front of the backdrop. Guests take them home.

Awards

“Most creative”, “Best accessory”, “Best pose”, “Best walk”.

Food and drink

• Mini wraps, sushi rolls and fruit skewers
• Pink lemonade mocktails
• A cake decorated like a handbag or with an edible photo

Tips

• Keep make-up simple and skin-friendly.
• Make sure everyone gets a turn and a cheer.
